BIO 3C BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY 5 Units 3 hours lecture 6 hours lab Transfers: CSU, UC Prerequisite: CHEM 12A and BIO 3A OR BIO 3AH Recommended Preparation: BIO 22 An introduction to biochemistry and molecular biology. Included are discussions of biological molecules, energy production, metabolic pathways and regulation, genetic code and genomics, DNA replication, transcription and RNA processing, translation, and gene regulation. Laboratory activities will include chromatography, cell fractionation, centrifugation, protein purification, electrophoresis, and recombinant DNA methods. This course is designed for biology majors and health pre-professionals. Field trips may be required to fulfill the objectives of the course. NR
