HIT 222 ADVANCED CODING APPLICATIONS 4 Units 2 hours lecture 6 hours lab Prerequisite: HIT 221 Recommended Preparation: CIM 1, HIT 200, HSC 233, HSC 244, HIT 215, HIT 220 & HIT 202 Advanced medical coding for addressing more complex issues relating to International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS)/Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding. Assignments focus on using different types of case studies mock records and applying learning at a higher coding skill level. Computerized encoders and groupers emphasized. This course will provide an opportunity for students in the Health Information Technology and Health Information Coding Specialist Programs to demonstrate competencies required for completion of each program.
