CIMN 240 FUNDAMENTAL UNIX/LINUX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION 3 Units 2 hours lecture 3 hours lab Recommended Preparation: CIMN 230 The course allows students to build, maintain, troubleshoot and support a server. Course covers environmental issues; disaster recovery, security procedures; industry terminology; server roles and specializations within IT. Course specifically explores the responsibilities of a UNIX/Linux system administrator and the day-to-day administrative and maintenance task of a network administrator. Topics include installing UNIX/Linux; configuring X windows and system hardware; file system creation, backup and maintenance; boot process; administering user and group accounts; integrating a workstation within an existing network; administering printing subsystems; system log responsibilities; kernel configuration; and process management.
