Survey of the historical developments of the Western civilization from its birth to the end of the Thirty Years’ War, 1648. Major emphasis will be placed on the Greek and Roman civilizations, the emergence, consolidation and decline of Medieval Europe, Humanism and Renaissance, European Exploration and colonization and the Protestant and Catholic Reformations. Designed for older adult students interested in learning the mechanisms of the ancient, medieval and pre-modern Western civilization, its strengths and weaknesses, in order to better understand the roots of the modern and contemporary developments of the West.
