ARTH 102 INTRODUCTION TO THE THEORIES OF ART

Offers historical perspectives of the visual arts by thematically examining the intellectual ideas and technologies that inform their production and reception. The significance of the changing role of the visual arts and their producers will be explored in this course by way of art and design works which reflect, interpret and comment upon the ideas, events, social histories and technological developments of their respective eras. Students will be encouraged to appreciate and analyze the historical underpinnings, which have shaped and directed the practice and reception of art and design.
