HIT 221 ICD DIAGNOSTIC CODING

3 Units 2 hours lecture 3 hours lab
Prerequisite: HSC 277
Provides overview of the organization and format of the International Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification (ICD), and the role of diagnostic coding in the Prospective Payment System. Provides instruction in diagnostic coding of health records by applying ICD guidelines. Students will use specialized software for the completion of the Health Information Management (HIM) processes with emphasis on encoders and groupers for diagnostic coding. Letter grade only.
